Coal ash is the byproduct of Georgia Power’s choice to burn coal for decades, resulting in 92 million tons of toxic waste that cause cancer.

Demand the Georgia Environmental Protection Division require Georgia Power to clean up all its toxic coal ash by fully excavating it into safely lined landfills!

Currently, Georgia Power operates 3 coal plants and manages 10 retired coal plant sites, all with toxic coal ash ponds.

How did we get here?

Coal ash affects everyone everywhere.

We must hold the powers that be accountable to clean it up right.

Watch chapters of the docu-series Rising From the Ashes below.

Over the next several months, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) will accept public comments about Georgia Power’s plans to deal with its toxic coal ash ponds across Georgia.

  • The Georgia EPD is the regulatory body tasked with ensuring Georgia Power follows environmental laws and regulations, which is why it’s critical for you to tell EPD that Georgia Power’s current plans don’t protect the health of all Georgians adequately.

  • Georgia Power says that it will fully excavate some ponds and move that ash to lined landfills, but the majority of Georgia Power’s toxic pollution will be covered up - with no barrier to protect Georgia’s groundwater. This is called capping in place.

  • We are pushing the Georgia Environmental Protection Division to safely and thoroughly excavate existing coal ash ponds across Georgia. You are integral to that process by making your voice heard to the Georgia EPD.
